just checking in

We are finally back home again.  We spent a week in Florida, then Dean and MadMax returned home for work and school, respectively.  Nell and I stayed on to visit my younger sister in Louisiana.  We had such a good time--and of course, all that amazing Louisiana food.  The last day we went to Tony's for boudin balls, shrimp, and even crawfish (although since they're out of season, they were little guys).  It was fabulous.  So, no dieting for me, ever again (did I write that post?) but time to get back to...ummmm..... a less celebratory menu.  Ha.

My plan was to write posts five days a week during January (once we got back from vacation), but I'm finding that my motivation is low--possibly influenced by the Mountains o'Laundry that await me, plus piles of mail, Christmas decorations still to put away, etc etc.  Maybe I will start in a few days.  I have lists of posts I want to write on my phone, here on blogger, and in the notebook I've been carrying around the last couple of weeks.  I've been saving up because I just couldn't think about anything else while I was working on my thesis.

In the meantime, here are a few Florida pictures.  The last two days it was warm enough to go without a jacket, but it never really got above 65.  That's OK.  We still had fun.

  1. Florida looks beautiful and it sounds like you had a fabulous vacation. You deserved it.

But, ugh, mountains o'laundry? You have my deepest sympathies.

    1. I made massive inroads into the laundry mountain today. Not much else of use was accomplished. :-)

  2. Ok, so this comment has nothing to do with your most recent post... but I found your site when perusing a google search on lit theory (in prep to teach a class this semester). Why I'm contacting you is two-fold... One... I don't teach lit theory... I teach writing... and I'm looking for a seriously good site for an overview of literary theory for my students (senior capstone in English), as I have to assess them on their understanding of lit theory. Two... I'm curious to know what you got your degree in and what type of degree it is. I'm older than you, and I'm finishing my doctorate, and finding it un-utterably difficult to work on it while not at school. (I moved from Indiana to Michigan to take care of a sister who had cancer after my husband died of cancer while I was in school.) Any thoughts on how to stay motivated would be _most_ appreciated. In losing my husband, I lost - among a soulmate and a wealth of wondrousness - a person with whom I could bounce off my ideas... and now I usually just sit and stare at the computer. Disgusting. Anyway... my email address is cdoran@gmail.com, in case you'd like to chat.

    1. I will e-mail you next week when the last round of revisions to my thesis is done. If you don't hear from me, remind me, I'm a total space cadet. e-mail link is on my profile page. I'm just finishing a master's in Lit. I don't know of a webpage, but *Beginning Theory* (Barry) and *How to Interpret Literature* (Parker) are the two books that got me through my theory classes.

  4. Those skies, that water,
    wait.... six girls?!

Glad you arrived home safely. Is it difficult to leave the beach? I think someone would have to tranquilize me to get me off that sand.

Mmmmm, very intrigued by the "no more diets" teaser.

    1. It was beautiful. Not very warm, but beautiful. You note that none of the adults on in the water-- Dean and Nell ran in a couple of times after they went for a run, but the rest of us were safely up the beach. I stuck my toes in once and couldn't believe the kids had been in it all afternoon-- it was FREEZING. :-)

Not much to say about the dieting thing except I'm not doing it anymore. I'm e-mailing you soon, maybe I will 'splain then.
