Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal.

Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

Hey! Maybe we'll have Name That Quote day today. There's a couple of gimmes in here (if you don't know #8, I'm not sure we can be friends), but some more obscure ones, too.

1. Pigs! You're all Pigs!

2. Don't tell me: he sends a check every week to his sweet, grey-haired old mother.
Actually, she's silver-haired.

3. It's just a flesh wound.

4. I will take it! Though I do not know the way.

5. Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?

6. I ain't playing with you, K. Did you ever flashy-thing me?

7. Once again, we've saved civilization as we know it.
And the good news is they're not going to prosecute.

8. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

9. I'll tell you what a paramecium is! That's the paramecium! It's a one-celled critter with no brain, that can't fly! Don't mess with me man, I'm a lawyer!

10. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
[ha, this one cracks me up every time.]

I ended up deleting Wednesday's post because it just pushed my uncomfortable buttons.  Sorry about that, especially to Becky and Lora who had already commented.

  3. Delia, you're good! 2 is from the first Christopher Reeve Superman, 5 is from Galaxy Quest, 7 is from Star Trek VI (which I haven't actually seen in years but that line is stuck in my head), and 9 is from Hook.

this was way more fun than what I was planning on posting when I first sat down! have a nice weekend!

  4. Post anything you want. Delete anything you want (and whatever I commented, I'm sure the universe is but lost without it). It's YOUR blog. Repeat after me: I AM IN CHARGE HERE. (this is also helpful with a room full of screaming kids).

    I know the Princess Bride.

Didn't know the rest. Feel functionally illiterate somehow...maybe I should expand the kind of movies I watch since not *everyone* thinks that Bridget Jones' Diary and Vegas Vacation bookend the AFI's best films of all time.

Can we still be friends if the word verification made me snort with laughter b/c it was "shetten"? I'm from Illinois where that is the correct pronunciation of common query: Are u shetten' me?

  6. OK, well, I guess I'll list them all out since more people than Delia chimed in. the one in the subject is Han Solo in Star Wars, of course.

    1. Willow
    2. Superman (Christopher Reeve)
    3. Monty Python and Holy Grail
    4. Lord of the Rings (Fellowship)
    5. Galaxy Quest
    6. Men In Black
    7. Star Trek VI
    8. The Princess Bride
    9. Hook
    10. Holy Grail again.

It's funny, it's hard for me to recommend watching some movies that I love-- like Holy Grail, or the Princess Bride, or Napoleon Dynamite. Because the first time you watch them, they seem like the stupidest movie EVER. It's not until you've seen them 3-4 times that they start to live in your brain and make you crack up at the oddest times when something reminds you of them. (Bring out your dead) Or even more importantly, until you've sat around the dinner table or at a bar and had an entire 15 minute conversation where you exchange lines from the movie. When she was in high school, my daughter and her friends could do this with lines from the Princess Bride and we would laugh until we hurt.

Diva, it made me snort that the word verification was shetten, too. In fact, I'm still giggling. Easily entertained, that's us.
