the new john

Well, I was going to write something interesting (I'm sure it would have been interesting), but I sat down and started reading through all of your blogs and used up all my time.  But I am not sorry because dang I love reading all your blogs.  Excuse me while I exude sparkly warm girlfriend feelings.

So here is our main news, and the rest will have to wait:  we now have TWO, count them, one....two!! functioning toilets at our house.  Woo-hoo!  Especially appreciated since the one that was working before was in our bedroom, which meant that every construction worker who spent more than a half day here came up to use it.  I am happy.  I will even give you a picture, even though there is nothing fancy about this toilet.

OK, when I went to take the commode photo off the SD card, I remembered there were pictures there from the other day, too, so you get three.  This turned out not to be such a lame post after all.

Here is what we see when we walk out of our bedroom (from the landing at the top of the stairs):

The dark beam across the top third is what we had to add to support the roof, which was starting to sag.  Visibly.

Remember the other day when I told you it was hard to take pictures of the things that are cool about this house?  Well, the things that are cool about this house are almost all outside the house, and they don't photograph well through the windows, as you can see in that picture.  I had completely forgotten that after I took that one I went out on the deck and took an unobstructed picture, so here is that one, too (you'll note we don't have much snow this year, much to the chagrin of MadMax, who is mad for skiing at the moment).

and voila, the new toilet:

hey! you wanted pictures! :-)

  1. You forgot to mention the door. Toilet and a door, bonus.
It's good that I don't live in this house cause I'd want to spend all my time on the landing at the top of the stairs looking out those beautiful windows.
Is there room for a chair there? It would be a great place for a cup of coffee. Ooh goodness. There's some of the brainwashing Allen Carr talks about. Why do I associate coffee here? I could sit there and read a book or something.
Yeah, this lack of winter is scary stuff. Sorry MM doesn't get to ski yet.

    1. Yes, there was a chair there but I had to move it when the tile guy moved in with his equipment. It will return, and I am also looking forward to mornings looking out the windows. Eventually. Sad to say that I've been off coffee for three? four? years now and I still have that thought-- the one about a nice place to have a cup of coffee.

  2. Move over a little Judy, I want to stand there too. In fact, before I saw your comment I thought how nice it would be to have my morning coffee looking out those windows.

Europe has all of our winter plus theirs as well. Something to do with weird upper level wind patterns.

Yay for toilets! Toilets with doors! So do you or will you have a place for people to stay when we come visit?

    1. really? all our snow is in Finland? I had no idea. It's supposed to be 40 here today, which may or may not sound warm to you, but it is dang warm for here for this time of year. Since most people around here are into winter sports, no one is very happy about it.

Yes, we have a guest room. In fact, it's the only room in the house that is mostly together. It is technically speaking Nell's room, but since she is off at college, it's the guest room. Big upgrade for her since the guest room furniture is way nicer than what she had before! :-)

  3. So if I start driving today . . . 4 days to get there without killing myself? The grumpy, snarky 15 year old with a cold is making me contemplate running away.

    1. yes, start today!! too bad we can't twinkle our noses and get your 15yo and my 14yo off to someplace where they could be grumpy together, preferably someplace where we can't hear them.

  4. The view!!! I have been waiting for more pictures of the view! Oh I love that view so much...... the beam holding up the roof is a nice touch too though.

And a toilet. With a door! What progress. Thank you for sharing. And no, I'm only exaggerating a tiny bit, the rest is real enthusiasm, much like your sparkly warm girlfriend feelings.

  6. Well! I left a comment here about the view, the other day. But it didn't post!

What I believe I said was: What dramatic scenery!
